Grace Lee Whitney “was super flirtatious — which I thought was awesome.” — Bill Barnett
Bill Barnett was 17 years old and at his first convention in the summer of 1976 and, luckily for us, he brought a tape recorder with him. “Why did I take a tape recorder? I have no idea,” he told me.

Below are the six brief interviews Barnett recorded that day. He asked most of the celebrities a variation on “What have you been doing since Star Trek?” and said each was very approachable. “It was really informal. You could just walk up and ask to speak with them.”
Grace Lee Whitney “was super flirtatious — which I thought was awesome. George Takei was great, very friendly.”
Barnett also remembers speaking to Mark Lenard but, sadly, if he recorded that chat it has been lost over the more than four decades since. And, although he enjoyed Toronto Star Trek ’76, it was to be his only convention experience. He never went to another.
